Barefoot in the Snow

I confess to walking barefoot in the snow and bitter cold, short jaunts usually out to fetch the mail.

It’s always an exhilarating trip; the burning cold swiftly extinguishes like a candle flame snuffed by a warm breath of air rushing over it the moment I step back into the warm house.

I can’t say it has prevented me from catching colds, as I’ve heard the legend told, but the cold powder feels mightily soothing on my swollen sore feet, chasing the charley horses back into their stalls.

Everybody knows their own feet, and their tolerance for the cold, so you’ll have to decide for yourself about walking barefoot in the snow.

But you might just try it sometime when the snow ain’t too deep, and when the charley horses are out stomping on your feet.
